Description

Manual Process: Use the Annotate Image Pop-up to manually add notes to a Report Image test type via the AP Worksheet. If the report image test has not yet been edited and has been set up to have a default base image in the test's AP Settings, the pop-up will load with the specified default base image; otherwise, you can select a base image to use.

Automatic Process: Use the Annotate Image Pop-up to configure the system to automatically add notes to a Report Image test type via the Order Choice AP Setup page.

Manual Process

TaskCenter > Manage Testing > Work in Progress > AP Worksheet > Attachments section > edit icon (notepad and pencil icon) or image icon > Annotate button

You can only annotate report images that have the setting Restrict to Image Library Images enabled in the test's AP Settings.


Automatic Process

Using the Annotate Tools

At the top of the pop-up, you'll see a variety of tools you can use to annotate the report image. If you're setting up the system to automatically add annotations, you must select a base image (icon that looks like a picture of mountains) in the top-right corner of the annotate image area before using any of the tools.

Select Overlay Image

Select the button to open the Select an Image pop-up, where you can select an image to use as the overlay image in your report image. The images defined as an Overlay Image image type in the Image Library will appear for selection in this pop-up.

Upload Image: Select the button to navigate to an image on your local device to use.

After you select Save, the overlay image will appear on top of the base image in the Annotate Image pop-up.

Add Rectangle


Add Ellipse


Add Circle

Select the rectangle, ellipse, or circle button to add a rectangle, ellipse, or circle to the report image, respectively.


The following options appear in the shape toolbar below the annotate tools. They are explained below from left to right:

Fill Opacity Percentage: Use the field to adjust the fill opacity of the shape. Use the up arrow to increase the fill percentage. Use the down arrow to decrease the fill percentage.

Fill Color: Use to choose a color for the shape. You can manually select a color by sliding the color slider and selecting a color in the box, or you can enter an exact color code using the RGB, HSL, or HEX code fields. Use the up and down arrows to toggle through the RGB, HSL, or HEX code fields. 

Outline Opacity Percentage: Use to adjust the opacity of the shape's outline. Use the up arrow to increase the opacity percentage. Use the down arrow to decrease the opacity percentage.

Outline Color: Use to choose a color for the shape's outline. You can manually select a color by sliding the color slider and selecting a color in the box, or you can enter an exact color code using the RGB, HSL, or HEX code fields. Use the up and down arrows to toggle through the RGB, HSL, or HEX code fields. 

Outline Size: Use the field to adjust the weight of the shape's outline. Enter a value or use the up and down arrows.

Outline Style: Use the drop-down to choose a style for the shape's outline. Choose Solid to create a solid outline, Dashed to create a dashed outline, or Dotted to create a dotted outline.


Select and drag the shape to reposition it on the image or use the arrow keys on your keyboard for more precise positioning. To resize the shape, select and drag the gray handles at the corners of the selected shape. Or, you can use the X Position and Y Position fields to enter a value for the exact location where the shape should sit. You can also use the Width and Height fields to enter a value for the exact size of the shape.

For the ellipse, you can select the gray handle in the middle of the shape to change its radius. Or, use the Radius field to enter a radius value.

Add Text


Select the button to add text to the report image.


The following options appear in the text toolbar below the annotate tools. They are explained below from left to right:

Fill Opacity Percentage: Use the field to adjust the fill opacity of the text. Use the up arrow to increase the fill percentage. Use the down arrow to decrease the fill percentage.

Fill Color: Use to choose a color for the text. You can manually select a color by sliding the color slider and selecting a color in the box, or you can enter an exact color code using the RGB, HSL, or HEX code fields. Use the up and down arrows to toggle through the RGB, HSL, or HEX code fields. 

Font Size: Use the field to enter or select a font size.

Font: Select a font from the drop-down list. The options are Arial, Courier, Segoe UI, Verdana.

Bold: Select the button to apply bold to the text.

Italic: Select the button to apply italics to the text.

Text field: Select in the field to enter the text onto the report image.


Select and drag the text box to reposition it on the image or use the arrow keys on your keyboard for more precise positioning. To resize the text box, select and drag the gray handles at the corners of the selected text box. Or, you can use the X Position and Y Position fields to enter a value for the exact location where the text box should sit. You can also use the Width and Height fields to enter a value for the exact size of the text box.

Add Line

Select the button to add a line to the report image. Select a spot on the image to begin the line and select again to end the line. Select and drag the line to reposition it on the image or use the arrow keys on your keyboard for more precise positioning. To change the direction of the line or to resize it, select and drag the gray handles at the top and bottom corners of the selected line. Or, you can use the X Position and Y Position fields to enter a value for the exact location where the image should sit; use the X Position 2 and Y Position 2 fields to enter a value for the exact location of the other end of the line. 


The following options appear in the shape toolbar below the annotate tools. They are explained below from left to right:

Outline Color: Use to choose a color for the line. Use the up and down arrows to toggle through the RGB, HSL, or HEX code fields. 

Outline Size: Use the field to adjust the weight of the line. Enter a value or use the up and down arrows.

Outline Style: Use the drop-down to choose a style for the line. Choose Solid to create a solid line, Dashed to create a dashed line, or Dotted to create a dotted line.

Add Test Result

Note

This button does not appear if you're manually annotating images via the AP Worksheet's Annotate Image Pop-up. This button appears only when configuring your system to automatically annotate images via the Order Choice AP Setup page's Annotate Image Pop-up.


Select the button to add a test result overlay to the report image. The following formatting options appear in the toolbar below the annotate tools to help you format the test result. They are explained below from left to right:

Fill Opacity Percentage: Use the field to adjust the fill opacity of the text. Use the up arrow to increase the fill percentage. Use the down arrow to decrease the fill percentage.

Fill Color: Use to choose a color for the text. You can manually select a color by sliding the color slider and selecting a color in the box, or you can enter an exact color code using the RGB, HSL, or HEX code fields. Use the up and down arrows to toggle through the RGB, HSL, or HEX code fields. 

Font Size: Use the field to enter or select a font size.

Font: Select a font from the drop-down list. The options are Arial, Courier, Segoe UI, Verdana.

Bold: Select the button to apply bold to the text.

Italic: Select the button to apply italics to the text.

Select Test: Select this button to open the Select a Test pop-up, where you can search for and select the test that the overlay will use to display the test result. The name of the test displays as the layer name in the Layers section to the right of the pop-up.

Add Circular Percent Fill

Note

This button does not appear if you're manually annotating images via the AP Worksheet's Annotate Image Pop-up. This button appears only when configuring your system to automatically annotate images via the Order Choice AP Setup page's Annotate Image Pop-up.

Select the button to add a circle overlay to the report image that reflects the percentage of the numeric test result. This type of overlay is helpful for laboratories that have diagrams where they want to show a percentage of the malignant tissue when a malignancy is present.


The following options appear in the shape toolbar below the annotate tools. They are explained below from left to right:

Select Test: Select this button to open the Select a Test pop-up, where you can search for and select the test that the overlay will use to display the test result. In this overlay, the circle is filled from the top in a clockwise direction, filling the circle to the percentage of the selected test's result. The name of the test displays as the layer name in the Layers section to the right of the pop-up.


Select and drag the shape to reposition it on the image or use the arrow keys on your keyboard for more precise positioning. To resize the shape, select and drag the gray handles at the corners of the selected shape. Or, you can use the X Position and Y Position fields to enter a value for the exact location where the shape should sit. You can also use the Radius field to enter a value for the exact radius of the circle.

Add Bar Percent Fill

Note

This button does not appear if you're manually annotating images via the AP Worksheet's Annotate Image Pop-up. This button appears only when configuring your system to automatically annotate images via the Order Choice AP Setup page's Annotate Image Pop-up.

Select the button to add a bar overlay image that reflects the percentage of the numeric test result. This type of overlay is helpful for laboratories that have diagrams where they want to show a percentage of the malignant tissue when a malignancy is present.

In this overlay, the bar is filled from the left to the right, filling the bar to the percentage of the selected test's result. The name of the test displays as the layer name in the Layers section to the right of the pop-up. 


Select and drag the shape to reposition it on the image or use the arrow keys on your keyboard for more precise positioning. To resize the shape, select and drag the gray handles at the corners of the selected shape. Or, you can use the X Position and Y Position fields to enter a value for the exact location where the shape should sit. You can also use the Width and Height fields to enter a value for the exact size of the shape.

Undo/Redo

Select the Undo button to undo an annotate action you just performed. Select the Redo button to redo an annotate action you just undid.

Select Base Image

Select the button to open the Select an Image pop-up, where you can choose a different image as the base image. The images defined as a Base Image image type in the Image Library will appear for selection in this pop-up.

Upload Image: Select the button to navigate to an image on your local device to use.

After you select Save, the new base image will appear on the Annotate Image pop-up. 


Working with Layers

When you add an annotate item such as a shape, overlay image, or text to the base image, it appears as a layer in the Layers list. Select an item in the Layers list to select it in the image. Select the X button next to the layer in the list to remove it from the image. You can also drag and drop the layers to any position in the list.

The base image always remains on the pop-up. You can change the base image by selecting the Select Base Image icon in the top-right corner of the pop-up.

If you're manually annotating images via the AP Worksheet and there is a test result overlay layer, you'll see a Select Test button at the top of the page with the other annotation tools. Select this button to open the Select a Test pop-up, where you can search for and select the test that the overlay will use to display the test result. The name of the test displays as the layer name. You cannot manually add a test result overlay; the system automatically adds them based on the settings configured in the AP Automatic Annotations section of Order Choice AP Setup


Configuring the Automatic Image Annotation Rules

Use the Conditions section to configure the rules the system will use to automatically annotate report images for this order choice.

Note

The system evaluates free-text and drop-down list answers when evaluating image annotation rules.

NameEnter a name for the image annotation rule.
Specimen Source CategorySelect or begin typing in the search-as-you-type field to search for and select a specimen source category that will trigger the image annotation rule.
Specimen SourceSelect or being typing in the search-as-you-type field to search for and select a specimen source that will trigger the image annotation rule.
Laterality/Top1

Select an option for the laterality/top1 condition that will trigger the image annotation rule. 

In the corresponding text box next to the drop-down list, enter the value for the condition.

Site/Top2

Select an option for the site/top2 condition that will trigger the image annotation rule. 

In the corresponding text box next to the drop-down list, enter the value for the condition.

Anatomic Location

Select an option for the anatomic location condition that will trigger the image annotation rule.

In the corresponding text box next to the drop-down list, enter the value for the condition.

Procedure

Select an option for the procedure condition that will trigger the image annotation rule.

In the corresponding text box next to the drop-down list, enter the value for the condition.

Test Conditions

Select the Edit button to configure the test conditions that will trigger the image annotation rule. The Test Conditions pop-up opens.

  • All Test Condition groups are met: Select to trigger the image annotation rule when all test condition groups (you define below) are met.
  • Any Test Condition group is met: Select to trigger the image annotation rule when any of the test condition group (you define below) is met. 
  • Add Group: Select the button to add a new test condition group to the list.
  • Add Test Condition: Select to add a new test condition to the group.
  • Remove Group: Select to remove the test condition group from the list.
  • Test Name: Choose an option from the list to set a condition for the test name. Use the corresponding text box to enter the condition's value.
  • Result Value to Compare: Choose an option from the list to define the result value to compare. 
  • Result Value: Choose an option from the list to set the result value being compared. Use the corresponding text box to enter the value.
  • Abnormal Flags Value: Choose an option from the list to set the abnormal flags used in the condition.
  • Delete: Select the X button to delete the condition from the test condition group.
  • Save: Select to save your changes and return to the Annotate Image pop-up.
  • Cancel: Select to discard your changes and return to the Annotate Image pop-up.
