Description

Use the Order Choice Types page to view, add, or edit order choice types. When you create an order choice type for order choices used in cytology accessioning or in the Freezer Storage module, you must select the option to not send the order message when the sample is collected, so that your system does not send an order when the sample is marked as "collected." This allows you to manually control the release of cytology and storage orders, as appropriate. For cytology, you assign order choice types to protocols, which are rules for creating cytology sets to order. See the Cytology Protocols topic. For storage order choices, the setting to stop sending order messages causes your system not to transmit the order, since it is being used as a record for the storage of the sample. You may later add other order choices to perform testing on the stored samples.

Adding or Editing Order Choice Type Details

Use the Order Choice Types details page to create order choice types for use with cytology orders and in the Freezer Storage module. See the Accession Cytology topic. You can also use this section to modify the order choice type's information.

Order Choice Type

Enter the full name of the order choice type in the field. This field is required.

Order choice type is designated for storage

If your facility is using the Freezer Storage module, this checkbox is available to have your system consider all order choices with this type available for the Freezer Storage module. Once this checkbox is selected for an order choice type and the Freezer Storage module is enabled, your system enforces the following:

  • Orders cannot contain order choices with both storage and non-storage order choice types.
  • Order choices that have a storage order choice type may not be marked as combinable and order choices marked as combinable cannot be assigned a storage order choice type.
  • Profiles may not contain order choices with both storage and non-storage order choice types.
  • Order choices that have a storage order choice type will show up as complete in the Order History page and as final in the Orders administrative report.

Note

Storage order choices do not appear on Completion or Turnaround Time Reports and they will not appear on the Result Delivery report because they are not delivered.

Active

Select the checkbox to enable users to select the order choice type for cytology and storage order choices. Clear this checkbox to restrict users from using the order choice type. If the order choice list is inactive, the system clears it from the Order Choice Types list page when you select the Show active only checkbox.

Description

Enter the description of the order choice type in the field. To edit the order choice type description, highlight or delete text already displayed in the field, then modify as desired.

ID Generation

Select to define a sample ID or order ID generation rule for an order choice type so that any order choice that has this order choice type assigned to it will follow the order choice type's sample ID or order ID formats. See the ID Generation topic. You must have the necessary security settings to access the ID Generation page.

Is combinable Select the checkbox to allow order choices that have order choice type-based ID generation to combine onto a single sample as long as the two order choices are both assigned to the same order choice type. This setting will only be visible when ID Generation has been defined for the order choice type.
Stop order message from being sent to lab when sample is marked as collected

Select the checkbox to restrict your system from automatically transmitting orders when a sample is collected. Clear this checkbox to enable your system to send the order report as soon as the sample is marked as collected.

When you create an order choice type for order choices used in cytology accessioning or in the Freezer Storage module, you must select the option to not send the order message when the sample is collected, so that your system does not send an order when the sample is marked as collected. This allows you to manually control the release of cytology and storage orders, as appropriate. See the Accession Cytology topic.

Create duplicate order if matching order is received with different Placer Order NumberSelect the checkbox to allow order choices that are assigned to that type to create duplicate orders if a matching order is received with a different placer order number via HL7. For this setting to take effect, the host that the order is received from must be configured to Match order components for a patient by using a five minute window of time.
Match Case ID between an AP order choice and a clinical order choice's sample IDSelect the checkbox to allow order choices with AP case IDs to assign it as the sample ID on the same order (both must have the same order choice type). This also inversely assigns the sample ID from a clinical order choice as the case ID on an AP case for the same order.
Allow AP Case ID to be edited manuallySelect the checkbox to allow users to edit the AP Case ID on the Enter Specimen Part pop-up on Order Patient Samples.
Generate separate report for this type's results

Select the checkbox to have your system generate a separate report for order choices with the order choice type. Enabling this setting will cause the page count to restart. Your system will print patient and order-level comments (if present) for each report. After selecting the checkbox, the following search-as-you-type fields are enabled, allowing you to search for and select layout templates to be used for the report:

  • Report Header Template
  • Report Body Template
  • Report Footer Template
  • Report Page Footer Template

Enabling this setting will cause a page break before and after the report for this group and page count will be restarted.

Change LogSelect to view the change log for the selected order choice type. See the Change Log topic. You must have the necessary security right to access the Change Log page.
SaveSelect to add the order choice type to the list page or to save the edits you made to an existing order choice type.
