Description
Use the ZIP Codes page to add or edit the list of ZIP codes available in the database. If ZIP code checking is enabled in the System Defaults page, then, when you enter in the Demographics or Insurance pages a ZIP code that exists in the database, the system automatically fills in the city and state associated with the ZIP code, and if the ZIP code update option is enabled, then the system also updates the corresponding city and state data, if appropriate. See the System Defaults, Insurance, Practices, Locations, Hosts, Demographics, or Insurance Plan topics. When performing the check, the system first searches for an exact match (for example, 12345-6789). If it cannot find a match, it searches on the first five characters of the ZIP code (for example, 12345). The system uses the first ZIP code match to populate the city and state fields. The ZIP code the user enters must exist in this page; users may not permanently add ZIP code to city/state relationships when editing patient or insurance records.
