Description

Use the Tube/Container Types page to view, add, or edit a tube/container type list that is used to define order choice collection information in the Collection Information section of the Order Choices administration page. See the Order Choices topic.

If your facility is using the Freezer Storage module, verify that there is a record for each tube/container type that you may use to store samples (e.g., 2ml cryo vial, 4ml cryo vial).

Enter the full name of the tube/container type in this field.

This field is required.

Active

Select this checkbox to enable users to select the tube/container type while creating order choices. Clear this checkbox to restrict users from selecting the tube/container type.

If the tube/container type is inactive, the system clears it from the Tube/Container Type List page when you select the Show active only checkbox.

Enter an abbreviation for the tube/container type. The maximum number of characters allowed is 60.

Note

This field is required for tubes/containers that are microbiology media containers.

Maximum Yield

Enter a value in this field to set the volume associated with the tube/container type.

The system uses this value in conjunction with the Minimum Required Yield sample collection value for order choices to estimate the container count for each sample on an order.

Units

Enter a value in this field to set the volume associated with the tube/container type.

The system uses this value in conjunction with the Minimum Required Yield sample collection value for order choices to estimate the container count for each sample on an order.

UCUM UnitsType or select in this search-as-you-type field to select the number of UCUM units associated with the tube/container type.

Do not create sample tracking items for this tube/container type

Select this checkbox to grant the ability to opt out of automatic metacontainer creation for specified tube/container types.

When the checkbox is selected, metacontainer items will not be automatically created for the tube/container when an order choice is created with samples of that tube/container type.

Sample tracking items expire  Years_ Days_ after collection

Enter numbers to set an expiration date for years and/or days. The expiration date for a sample will be calculated when a sample is collected. The years and days specified in this setting will be added to the collection date/time in order to determine the expiration date/time.

Samples created for tube/container types that use this setting will expire in Sample Tracking after the specified amount of time. Samples that are created for tube/container types that do not use this setting will never expire in Sample Tracking.

Note

This setting is only available with a Sample Tracking license.

Can be used for manual aliquoting

Select the checkbox to specify that the tube/container can be used for manual aliquoting.

Only tubes/containers with the setting selected can be used on the Sample Aliquoting pop-up when manually creating a new aliquot.

  • Is not a collection container: Select this checkbox to indicate that this tube/container type is not a collection container. This will remove the tube/container type from appearing in non-microbiology tube/container type searches.
  • Does not qualify for media observations: Select this checkbox to indicate that this tube/container type does not qualify for media observations.
  • Instrument Identifiers: Select this button to open the Instrument Identifiers pop-up, where you can choose from active instruments in the system. Select instruments and configure an outbound ID to associate with this instrument mapping.

Note

The Microbiology Media Container options are only available with a Microbiology license.

Select the checkbox to designate this tube/container as an AP container and to access the drop-down list to specify the container type. Select one of the following container types:

  • Collection Container
  • Block

Count Type

AdditiveEnter text in this search-as-you-type field to add an additive to the tube/container type. Select the magnifying glass icon to manually search for an additive. Select X to remove the additive.
Associated Order Choices

Select this button to display the Associated Order Choices pop-up, which displays the order choices with collection information that use the tube/container type.

Select the Show active only checkbox to only view active tube/container types in the pop-up. Select Close to close the pop-up and return to the Tube/Container Type Details page.

Label Printing

Select this button to open the Label Printing page to configure default printing preferences and label formats for the current tube/container type.

You may also define master or tube label formats for the system default setting or for individual hosts (see the System Defaults or Hosts topics). The system uses the tube/container type's label format settings, if they are available, for order choices that require this type of tube/container. If tube/container type label formats do not exist or are not active, the system uses host label format settings for labels produced for samples that have been routed to that host. If host label formats do not exist or are not active, the system uses the system default label format set in the System Defaults administration page.
